Transmission System

  • Manual transmission: Driver selects gears using the clutch pedal and gear shifter.
  • Clutch: A friction disc that disconnects the engine from the transmission while shifting.
  • Automatic transmission: Uses a torque converter (fluid coupling) instead of a clutch; gears shift automatically.
  • Gear ratios: Lower gears multiply torque (more pulling power, less speed). Higher gears = more speed, less torque.
  • Drive shaft: Transfers power from the transmission to the axle.
  • Differential: Allows the driven wheels to rotate at different speeds when turning (outer wheel covers more distance than inner wheel).
  • 4WD: Powers all four wheels for better traction on loose or slippery terrain.
